New Ads Show Apple Pay as More Secure Than Credit Cards
Apple has just published three new ads on its YouTube channel in the United Kingdom, that highlight the security benefits of Apple Pay as compared to conventional credit cards (via MacRumors).

Apple’s new ads emphasize that physical credit cards can be stolen, or used by anyone, which leaves your card number exposed to other people. Apple says that all these security risks can easily be avoided by using Apple Pay on your iPhone or Apple Watch.

Last week, Apple Pay went down in Canada for some users. One of the users noted that some iOS 16 beta users are experiencing Apple Pay issues with American Express terminals. The issue was later found to be affecting iOS 15 as well.
With the Rogers outage last week affecting the entire INTERAC network, and this recent Apple Pay issue, it’s a good reminder to always have some cash on hand, still.

I’ve NEVER used Apple Pay, simply because I’ve never felt I can trust it. How do we know Apple can’t be hacked? Should we not carry our physical cards any longer? What happens if you’ve forgotten (or lost) your phone? What if your carrier has an outage (think Rogers)?
I always carry some cash. During the recent Rogers outage I wanted to gas up my vehicle as gas was at the lowest price expected for some time. I fully expected to use cash, but oddly enough, at the particular gas station I used, some credit cards worked and others did not. I had one that did work.
Apple Pay seems convenient, but I’m still not sure I’d have complete confidence in it.
