Discord Voice Chat Now Available on Xbox to Beta Testers

Last week, Xbox announced its partnership to bring Discord Voice chat to Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One consoles to Alpha Insiders. Now, Xbox Beta ring Insiders are able to take advantage of the new voice support.

Microsoft has rolled out its new software update to beta Insiders. In the release notes, it’s confirmed that testers are able to begin utilizing Discord Voice chat on Xbox consoles. “Today’s update enables a highly requested feature – the ability to chat in Discord Voice on your Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S,” Xbox states.

Discord Voice chat works very much like Xbox’s party chat feature and supports a similar UI. However, as of now, there are a couple of hoops to jump through in order to get Voice chat to work on the console. Users must go to the Xbox party menu and select ‘Try Discord Voice.’ A QR code will then appear which players must scan. Players must then use the Discord and Xbox mobile apps to connect a two-way link.

Once the setup is complete, users can then set up a Discord call on their mobile device and transfer it to the Xbox console. As with Xbox party chat, users can toggle volume levels, mute others, disconnect from the call, and more. While it’s a little more involved to get going, it’s only due to the lack of naitive Discord support on the console via an app.

Microsoft appears to be moving quite quickly through its Insider testing phases. As Discord Voice chat is already available to Beta ring players, we fully expect those within the Delta and Omega rings to gain access as well in the coming weeks. A much wider public release is tentatively scheduled to hit “soon.”
