RBC Offering Free iPad for New Account Sign-Ups Again

RBC has once again introduced a promo offering customers a free iPad (10th-gen) when they switch over from their bank, an offer that’s been coming back for the past decade.
The bank periodically offers up Apple products for those switching over and its Apple Watch promotion from before has now ended, now moving over to the free iPad offer yet again.
To qualify, customers must open an eligible RBC bank account by August 13, 2024, and complete two specific banking activities by December 9, 2024.
Eligible accounts for this offer include RBC Signature No Limit Banking with a monthly fee of $16.95, and RBC VIP Banking with a monthly fee of $30.
Participants must either set up their payroll or pension as a direct deposit, establish two pre-authorized monthly payments, or make two bill payments to a service provider. Yes, there are quite a few steps involved to get a free iPad.
An “Eligible Personal Client” is defined as a Canadian resident who reaches the age of majority in their province or territory by September 30, 2024. The client must not have an existing Personal Banking Account with RBC, have never had a Personal Banking Account with RBC, nor qualified for any related offers in the five years prior to the promotional period.
Additionally, a valid email address must be associated with the client’s profile by September 30, 2024. Clients are responsible for keeping their email address updated through RBC Online Banking, the RBC Royal Bank Advice Centre, or an RBC Royal Bank branch.
Those who meet these criteria will receive an email from RBC shortly after June 18, 2024, or once the qualifying actions are completed, whichever is later. The email will contain a link to a secure website where customers can choose their iPad model and confirm shipment details. Delivery times will vary based on the selected device.
The eligible iPad model is the 10.9-inch Apple iPad (10th Generation Wi-Fi, 64GB, worth $499), available in Silver, Blue, Yellow, or Pink, though availability may vary. Customers must keep their account in good standing and maintain the qualifying criteria until after September 30, 2025, to retain the iPad reward, or you will be charged for the tablet.
If you were about to switch banks and are ready to pay monthly fees, this might be a way to get a free iPad in the process, if you’re willing to jump through all the hoops.

So at 16.95$ per month for the cheapest qualifying account and a commitment until September 30 2025 (15 months), you have to pay 254.25$ for a “free” iPad worth 499$. At 30$, you’re paying 450$ for that same identical iPad.
I’ll keep my unlimited banking account that costs me 0$ per month, thank you.
