Google Expands NotebookLM AI Writing Assistant to Canada

Google has announced a significant update to its AI-powered research and writing assistant, NotebookLM, expanding it globally, including Canada. The tool also gets an upgrade, now leveraging Gemini 1.5 Pro.
Last summer, Google introduced NotebookLM to assist users in understanding complex material, making new connections, and accelerating the drafting process. Users can upload various sources, such as research notes, interview transcripts, and corporate documents, transforming NotebookLM into an expert on their specific material.
The latest update brings several new features to NotebookLM, including support for Google Slides and web URLs, plus Google Docs, PDFs, and text files.
Users can now also directly link to supporting passages in the sources for easy fact-checking, while a Notebook Guide will convert sources into useful formats like FAQs, Briefing Docs, or Study Guides. Google says any sources uploaded are not used to train the model.
Thanks to Gemini 1.5 Pro, multimodal capabilities will let users ask questions about images, charts, and diagrams, with relevant citations included. AI is taking over the world, folks.
Google cited examples of real-world case studies of people using NotebookLM, including Walter Isaacson (the biographer of Steve Jobs and Elon Musk biographies), using the AI tool for his next book by analyzing Marie Curie’s journals.
Anyone can try the experimental tool that first debuted back at Google I/O 2023 in the US. Just visit notebooklm.google.com.
