This weekend, during the Xbox Games Showcase, Microsoft revealed three new console models. Launching “Holiday 2024.” players can purchase a Digital Edition of the 1TB Xbox Series X in ‘Robot White,’ a special edition Xbox Series X with 2TB in ‘Galaxy Black,’ and the all-new 1TB Xbox Series S in ‘Robot White,’
As noted in a subsequent Xbox Wire post, the three new Xbox models will join the roster of current-generation consoles. The goal is to offer players “more design, storage, and price options to fit your needs,” As long-awaited titles such as Avowed, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 are on the horizon, players may search out new storage options. Plus, the additional colourways help plug any existing holes across the Series X and Series S lineup.
During the Xbox Games Showcase, Xbox president Sarah Bond revealed the new consoles, with the Robot White model of the ‘Xbox Series X – 1TB Digital Edition’ being a standout. Adopting the white colour, the Series X now has a model that matches the appearance of the standard Series S console. This is similar to when Xbox released a ‘Carbon Black’ model of the Series S last year. Internally, the new Robot White model offers the same power and efficiency as the standard Xbox Series X. However, the new $449.99 USD (around $607 CAD) console does not offer a disc drive, making it a compelling offer for those who prefer to grow their libraries digitally.
The special edition Xbox Series X comes in ‘Galaxy Black,’ which is similar to the pattern and design of the Limited Edition Halo Infinite-inspired console. Xbox goes on to explain that the console offers a smattering of silver, grey, and green speckles to represent “thousands of games and millions of gamers playing on Xbox.” The new model also effectively doubles the storage space of any other available Series console to 2TB. Microsoft is pricing the console at $599.99 USD (around $824 CAD).
Rounding out the trio is the new 1TB Series S in Robot White. Similar to the aforementioned Carbon Black model, this new option introduces a 1TB SSD for the Robot White colourway. The blog post explains that it’s created to be “a perfect fit for players who wanted more storage but weren’t looking for the full power of Series X.” The new Series S launches for $349.99 USD (around $473 CAD).
Microsoft has not released the official launch date of the new consoles. However, players can look forward to the hardware this holiday season. Preorders for the new hardware are expected to open in the “coming months.”
