PlayStation to Soon Support Discord Voice Chats Directly From PS5

PlayStation has announced that it will be introducing support for players to join Discord voice chat directly from the PlayStation 5 console in the upcoming future.
PlayStation and Discord first entered a partnership in 2021, which saw the introduction of Discord voice chat on PS5. However, an upcoming update will enable users to join a Discord voice chat without the use of the Discord PC or mobile app to establish the connection.
According to a PlayStation Blog post, the update will “gradually roll out over the coming weeks.” To start, PlayStation players in Japan/Asia will gain access to the ability to hop into a Discord chat through their console. Following that expansion, the update will become accessible in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and the Middle East. Finally, Canada, the U.S. and South American regions will gain access.
Once enabled, players can select the Discord tab from the Game Base within the PS5 Control Center. From there, you can choose the Discord server or DM group you wish to join. Afterwards, select your preferred voice channel. This will highlight members in the chat who are already active. On top of this option, PlayStation will roll out notifications to show when a Discord user calls, allowing you to jump in easily.
To ensure you have the update (when available), you must have your PlayStation 5 console running the latest software. Additionally, your PlayStation Network and Discord must be linked.
In 2022, Discord brought its voice chat support to Xbox. By November of that year, the streamlined experience launched, eliminating the need for a phone or the Discord PC app. This update brings Discord support on PlayStation 5 on par with what’s available on Xbox consoles.
On top of improving the Discord voice chat experience, PlayStation is also rolling out the ability to share your PlayStation Network profile on any messaging or social app. To do so, select ‘Share Profile’ from the PlayStation App on mobile or your PS5 console. This will generate a sharable link or QR code for others to scan. Once shared, others can add you as a friend to the PlayStation Network. This is the same basic experience PlayStation will soon introduce for joining multiplayer sessions.
