TVA Sports Just Locked in 12 More Years of NHL Hockey in French

Quebecor just locked in another 12 years of French-language NHL hockey, inking a sublicensing deal with Rogers that keeps TVA Sports as the main place to watch the league in French from the 2026-27 season through 2037-38.

That sits beside the 12-year Prime Video Wednesday Night Hockey pact Rogers handed Amazon in July, which already has its 2026-27 schedule live, 27 national games starting September 30 in English and French at no extra cost for Prime members. Quebecor says fans will get more regular-season NHL games this time, including even more Montreal Canadiens nights on TVA Sports and TVA Sports Direct, and Videotron’s illico+ joining the mix.

“Premium sports content such as NHL hockey and Montreal Canadiens games is a unique vehicle for bringing together mass live audiences,” said Pierre Karl Peladeau, president and CEO of Quebecor, who pointed to carriage-fee rebalancing and the Habs’ on-ice run. Habs games pulled nearly 25% market share in the regular season and as many as two million viewers and a 50% share in the playoffs, with 97% live viewership across the 2025-26 season.

The dollar figure stays secret, and Quebecor is leaning hard on the local-platform pitch, jobs in French sports production and ad dollars staying home while Amazon and other foreign streamers take more of the pie. Louis-Philippe Neveu, TVA Group’s VP of operations, news and sports, said the channel’s value is year-round NHL coverage, not just the games.

Quebecor has been talking this renewal up since spring, when Peladeau told the Globe and Mail the company was in talks with the NHL and Rogers even as TVA Sports revenues shrank, so today’s announcement is the official stamp on that after a summer of Quebecor telling the CRTC it already dumped fees Bell, Rogers and Telus still charge.
