Amazon to Produce Seven Canadian Original Projects for Prime Video

Amazon has announced its plans to produce seven Canadian-made original projects for Prime Video. The productions were revealed as part of Amazon Connected Worlds in Toronto.
As first reported by MobileSyrup, Amazon has greenlit three projects featuring Pembroke, Ontario’s Tom Green. While the projects are still a mystery, Green is said to be serving as director and executive producer on all three. In addition, Amazon is also moving forward on two Canadian true crime docuseries. These projects are said to be helmed by “leading producers and directors in the genre.” Unfortunately, no names were revealed as part of the announcement.
Finally, the last two greenlit productions are a “northern Canadian survival show” and a “heart-warming true story of love.” Once again, Amazon appears to be keeping things close to the vest as far as who may be attached.
According to the company, this is the “largest number of unscripted titles to be greenlit” in Canada thus far. However, with that said, Amazon has had an enormous presence in Canada, creating a few tentpole originals over the years.
In 2022, Amazon launched LOL: Last One Laughing Canada, a six-part competition series, on Prime Video. The comedian competition stars the aforementioned Tom Green alongside a variety of Canadian comedians. Other notable Canadian originals include The Lake, which began in 2022. Additionally, 2023’s Mr. Dressup: The Magic of Make-Believe documentary is also a standout.
Canada is also home the production of several Prime Video productions as well. Most notably is The Boys and Gen V which have both shot in Toronto and Hamilton over the years. The Voyeurs and Upload were shot in Montreal and Vancouver respectively.
According to the report, Amazon hasn’t indicated when any of the seven projects will be made available on Prime Video.
