Apple TV’s ‘Widow’s Bay’ Makes Emmy History With Record 14 Wins

Apple TV’s Widow’s Bay has capped off its first season by making Emmy history by becoming the most-awarded comedy series in a single year.

The horror-comedy, which debuted on Apple TV earlier this year, collected 14 Emmy Awards from 19 nominations. This narrowly beat the previous record of 13 set by Apple’s own The Studio last year. Widow’s Bay entered Monday night’s ceremony with eight total wins from the Creative Arts Emmys, then added another six. That included the night’s biggest comedy prize, ‘Outstanding Comedy Series’.

Matthew Rhys won ‘Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series’ for his performance as Mayor Tom Loftis, while Kate O’Flynn and Stephen Root took home ‘Outstanding Supporting Actress’ and ‘Actor’, respectively. Creator Katie Dippold won ‘Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series’, while Hiro Murai won ‘Outstanding Directing’. Murai also made history, becoming the first Asian director to win the comedy directing category.

Rhys had an especially busy night. Alongside his Widow’s Bay win, the actor received ‘Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie’ for Netflix’s The Beast in Me. He became the first performer to win two lead acting Emmys in the same year. Combined with his 2018 win for The Americans, Rhys is also the first person to win lead acting Emmys across drama, comedy and limited series categories.

The results complete quite the run for Widow’s Bay. The series premiered on Apple TV in April and follows Loftis, the skeptical mayor of a struggling New England island community whose residents insist their home is cursed. By July, Widow’s Bay had collected 19 Emmy nominations, leading Apple’s record 89 nominations across its streaming lineup.

Its 14 wins also dethrone another Apple comedy. The Studio set the previous freshman comedy record after winning 13 awards at the 2025 Emmys.

Widow’s Bay has already been renewed for a second season, so Apple’s newest awards juggernaut isn’t going nowhere. As reported by ScreenRant, Season 2 begins filming in March of next year. No firm date has been set for the series’ return on Apple TV.
