Four New iPad Models May be in Development, According to Leaker

Four new iPad models could be well in development, according to discovered device identifiers. Amongst those identifiers appear to be an 11th-gen iPad and a 7th-gen iPad mini.
The identifiers were discovered by Nicolás Álvarez (reported by @aaronp613). The backend codes highlight four distinct models that Apple is currently developing. These include:
- iPad15,7: 11th-gen iPad (Wi-Fi)
- iPad15,8: 11th-gen iPad (Wi-Fi + Cellular)
- iPad16,1: iPad mini 7 (Wi-Fi)
- iPad16,2: iPad mini 7 (Wi-Fi + Cellular)
It’s claimed that the 11th-gen iPad will be powered by the A16 processor, a notable update from the A14 Bionic that the 10th-gen predecessor sports. Keeping in line with a sizeable two-generation chipset upgrade, the new iPad mini will supposedly utilize the A17 chip. However, there’s no indication as to whether it’ll be a base A17 chip or the A17 Pro, which would theoretically allow Apple to leverage Apple Intelligence.
In addition, Álvarez also spotted device identifiers for devices that are believed to have once been in development. It appears as though these devices may have been scrapped and left on the cutting room floor. Devices that didn’t end up making it into Apple’s production lineup include:
- iPad13,20: “Base” A14 iPad (Wi-Fi)
- iPad13,21: “Base” A14 iPad (Wi-Fi + Cellular)
- iPad15,3: 11-inch M3 iPad Pro (Wi-Fi)
- iPad15,4: 11-inch M3 iPad Pro (Wi-Fi + Cellular)
- iPad15,5: 13-inch M3 iPad Pro (Wi-Fi)
- iPad15,6: 13-inch M3 iPad Pro (Wi-Fi + Cellular)
As MacWorld notes, the references to a “Base” iPad is likely a call to the 9th-gen iPad that Apple planned to refresh with the A14 processor. This device was retired back in May and thus it’s unlikely that Apple will look at a refresh.
Apple may look to launch the new iPad and iPad mini later this fall.
