Google Maps Brings Speedometer, Speed Limits to iOS and CarPlay

Google Maps has finally introduced speedometer and speed limits features for iOS and CarPlay, more than five years after their debut on Android.
TechCrunch reports Google is rolling out these features globally for iPhone users. When users start navigation on Google Maps, the vehicle’s speed is displayed in miles or kilometres, depending on where you’re located.
According to TechCrunch, Google Maps debuted new speed features in India. Google confirmed on Tuesday that the new speedometer update rollout will be global.
Users can activate the speedometer and speed limits by tapping their profile picture on the Google Maps app on their iPhone and navigating to Settings > Navigation > Driving options. Once enabled, the speed limits feature will change colors on the speed indicator to prompt users to drive within the speed limit set in their region.
Google’s support page mentions that the speedometer shows the vehicle’s speed for “informational use only” and explains users should rely on their vehicle’s speedometer to confirm their actual speed (so you don’t blame Google for your lead foot after getting a speeding ticket).

Apple should copy this.
Yeah, it’s a nice feature. Apple Maps has the speed limit feature and it can be handy. Didn’t realize Google maps didn’t.
Yup. I’m surprised Apple hasn’t brought in the speedometer feature. Some of the very first apps in the App Store were speedometer apps.
