Google Photos has introduced two new settings for its iOS and Android apps, allowing users to turn off grid dates and disable the sticker shimmer effect. The updates come directly in response to feedback from users looking for a cleaner media timeline.
The first update addresses the timeline layout. Users can now toggle date headers on or off in the main photo grid, providing a seamless stream of images without date interruptions.
Shimrit Ben-Yair, VP & GM, Google Photos, Google One and AI Subscriptions, said today, “Feedback received and papercuts fixed! We’ve just rolled out two small fixes in Google Photos based on your requests.”
To hide date headers in the main gallery view:
The second update tweaks the sticker creation tool launched last year, which lets users cut out subjects from photos. While the tool uses a shimmer effect to highlight isolated subjects, users can now turn that animation off entirely.

Both features are rolling out now across mobile platforms, giving users more direct control over visual preferences in their media library, said Google earlier this week.
