Google Maps Launches Immersive View in 5 Canadian Cities

Google Maps has launched Immersive View in Canada, allowing users to virtually explore five major cities: Montreal, Calgary, Toronto, Ottawa, and Edmonton. The feature first launched in the U.S. back in October of last year, but has now expanded to Canada.
This new feature leverages advanced computer vision and AI to create lifelike, multi-dimensional experiences, transforming how users interact with their surroundings.
Immersive View combines billions of Street View and aerial images to provide a virtual experience that goes beyond traditional map views. Users can now explore destinations as if they were physically there, enhancing their ability to make informed decisions about where and when to visit.
For example, Google says planning a summer trip to Toronto becomes more exciting with Immersive View. Users can virtually fly over the CN Tower, then descend to street level to explore nearby attractions, restaurants, and hotels.
Similarly, the feature allows for a virtual walk through Old Montreal’s cobblestone streets, a tour of Calgary’s vibrant downtown, a look at Ottawa’s historic Parliament Hill, and an exploration of Edmonton’s scenic River Valley.
So far, no B.C. cities are part of Immersive View yet in Google Maps.
Immersive View also includes a time slider, enabling users to see predicted weather conditions and crowd levels at different times of the day, aiding in optimal trip planning.
How to use Google Maps Immersive View?
- Open Google Maps on your device.
- Search for a landmark or place of interest in one of the five cities.
- Look for the Immersive View preview (a small video thumbnail) in the search results.
