Apple Launches New Campaign to Promote Apple Watch for Kids
Apple is stepping up its efforts to market the Apple Watch to parents with a new “Apple Watch For Your Kids” campaign, showcasing the benefits of providing children with their own Apple Watch.

As noted by MacRumors, Apple’s dedicated new Apple Watch For Your Kids website provides a comprehensive guide on how the Family Setup feature works and its various benefits.
Through this feature, which has been available since 2020, a cellular Apple Watch can be added to and managed by a parent’s iPhone, allowing children to have a wrist-worn device for phone calls, text messaging, and location tracking.
One of the standout features promoted by Apple is Schooltime. This option enables parents to restrict notifications and apps during school hours via Do Not Disturb settings. The Schooltime schedule is customizable by parents and adds a visible yellow circle to the Apple Watch display, indicating to teachers that the device is inactive during class time.
Apple also highlights the durability and water resistance of the Apple Watch, assuring parents that the device can withstand the rough and tumble of children’s activities. Additionally, the built-in activity tracking options cater to young users, offering workouts specifically designed for children and rewarding them with activity awards.

The “Apple Watch For Your Kids” campaign is prominently featured on Apple Watch product pages. However, the support document that provides parents with setup instructions has not yet been updated to reflect this rebranding.
To equip a child with an Apple Watch, certain requirements must be met. The child needs an Apple Watch Series 4 or later with GPS + Cellular, and a cellular service plan.
The parent must have an iPhone 6s or later. Additionally, a Family Sharing group must be set up, and both parent and child must have Apple IDs.

Last time I looked into this I couldn't really find a provider that supported it easy really. Has that changed at all?
I believe Bell, Rogers and freedom mobile are supporting cellular Apple Watch. A very small selection.
Im not sure if things have changed, but I’m talking about a plan for children under a parent. My kid doesn’t have a phone and cell providers used to not just give a cellular plan to just a watch on its own.
I think this is mostly a U.S. carrier thing. Last I checked, you could not get a cellular connection for an Apple Watch in Canada unless you also had an iPhone connection. What I did was to get the kids an iPhone 13 Mini and set it up with Screentime controls. However if they misbehaved then I take it away from them and give them my Apple Watch which has cell service. The kid won't be able to call me but at least they can call their mother or sibling. And you can track the kid with your spouse's Find My app on iPhone. Not the greatest solution but good enough for us! … and cheaper than buying your kid an iPhone and a cellular Watch.
Only Telus and Bell offer Family plan. Rogers and all the flanker plans don't. Some, like Rogers, Virgin and Freedom offer cell service – but the phone number has to be the same as your own (i.e., not a family plan). Also, unlike in the US, Canadian family plan doesn't allow putting Apple Cash on the watches – so there will be no way for you to put cash on the watch for your child to use for Apple Pay (credit and debit cards are also not supported)
