Apple Watch Series 10 Details Leak Ahead of Fall Launch

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has shared details of the upcoming Apple Watch 10 and Ultra 3 ahead of the expected fall release and also the 10th anniversary of the wearable (that was fast).

There are Series 10 models codenamed N217 and N218. The new Series 10 displays will be nearly as large as those on the Apple Watch Ultra, which itself will not see a major redesign this year.

Sources tell Gurman both the Series 10 and the new Ultra 3 will feature a new chip, potentially paving the way for future AI enhancements.

However, the upcoming Apple Intelligence suite of AI features will initially be available only on the iPhone, iPad, and Mac, with no immediate plans to extend it to the Apple Watch. That’s definitely a shortcoming but on-device generative AI does require more processing power and memory.

There is uncertainty about whether Apple will market the new watches as anniversary editions this year or save a special release for 2025, says Gurman. Despite setbacks in developing health monitoring features like high blood pressure and sleep apnea detection, Apple continues to push forward and is still trying to add glucose monitoring to Apple Watch.

The high blood pressure feature has faced reliability issues, and the sleep apnea function is entangled in a legal dispute with Masimo.

Additionally, Apple is exploring the use of 3D-printing for the watch chassis to streamline production and reduce material usage. The company is also considering a new, more affordable version of the Apple Watch SE, potentially using rigid plastic to lower costs and better compete with Samsung’s more affordable Galaxy Watch FE. This reminds us of the the iPhone 5C and an Apple Watch in plastic with fun colours could be a hit.

At the end of the day, not everyone upgrades their Apple Watch every year. At this point, without any major upgrades or game-changing designs, there’s really no point to get a new Apple Watch, unless your battery life is a problem.

Who’s buying a new Apple Watch this year? Longer battery life would be a good thing on Series 10–please, Apple.

My s7 watch says my battery needs servicing so a little disappointing that the S10 isn't a big redesign. Not sure if I can stretch my S7 for another year.

I haven't upgraded since series 7, every year didn't see anything substantial to part with my $$. But I notice my battery is not lasting as long. Maybe more worthwhile just getting the battery changed instead.

Loving my Ultra 2, it says I burn more calories than my treadmill does, so I’m hoping the watch is more accurate due to the heart rate sensor.

I've been considering an Apple watch for some time, but I just can't get over the terrible battery life. I like using my Fitbit Versa as a sleep tracker and only have to charge it every fifth day. Daily charging or even every second day is the big deal breaker for me.
