Nintendo Announced New Joy-Con Charging Stand, Launching October 7

Nintendo has announced its new Joy-Con charging stand, releasing on October 7th. Seven years after its launch, the Nintendo Switch controller will finally get a dedicated first-party charging stand accessory.

The company revealed the new controller stand on X (formally Twitter) this week. The ‘Joy-Con Charging Stand (Two-Way)’  allows users to charge their Joy-Con controllers independently by inserting them into the USB-C- dock. The post also confirms that the charging stand will work for the Nintendo Entertainment System controllers made for Switch.

As of the time of writing, Nintendo of Canada has not confirmed the Canadian pricing of the accessory. However, seeing as though the official Canadian social account for Nintendo posted about the announcement, it’s safe to assume the peripheral will be released in Canada this fall.

This is the first time Nintendo will support an official charging stand for its Joy-Con controllers. While the Nintendo Switch launched in 2017, Nintendo has not released any independent charging dock for the Joy-Cons. Instead, players have had to rely on many third-party charging stands.

What makes this release particularly interesting is that it’s coupled with confirmation that the Nintendo Switch successor will be announced within the fiscal year. That means shortly after the launch of this product, and before March 31st, 2025, players will have an idea of Nintendo’s next console.

That being said, the Nintendo Switch will go on to receive support well into 2025 with new games. So, if you’re in the market for the Joy-Con controller stand and are worried your purchase may be too little too late, you don’t have anything to worry about. The other thing to consider is whether or not this accessory will have any compatibility with the new hardware and controllers that’ll arrive.
