Apple’s Smart Glasses Still in Development, Cheaper Vision Headset on Track for 2025: Gurman

Apple’s Vision group is reported to still be actively developing new headsets off the heels of Vision Pro this year. This includes the long-reported smart glasses, a cheaper Vision headset and the second-generation Vision Pro.
While Apple’s Vision Pro headset launched as a niche (and expensive) device, the development of follow-up devices is underway. In the latest edition of the Power On newsletter, Mark Gurman reports that the niche status and slower sales haven’t made Apple pivot away from the Vision series of devices.
Gurman notes that the Vision group continues to place its focus on a cheaper Vision headset. The report claims that the entry-level devices are “probably coming as early as next year.” Alongside this, Gurman reports that Apple is actively working to develop a second generation of Vision Pro. However, there’s no clear sign of when this device may ship.
Unfortunately, it’s hard to gauge exactly what Apple may do to make its Vision headset more affordable. Gurman actively believes the entry-level Vision headset will launch as early as the end of 2025. In a previous report, it was noted that Apple may look at ways to reduce processing power. The idea is to get its Vision headset down to a price point of $1,500 to $2,000 USD (around $2,050 to $2,700 CAD).
Secondly, Gurman reports Apple is still pursuing a set of smart glasses. Similar to the Meta Ray-Ban glasses, the Vision group aims to develop a pair of wearables without a display. It’s long been reported that Apple’s development channels have struggled to tap into true augmented reality for a pair of smart glasses. However, it appears as though the company is still committed to this breakthrough.
Once again, due to the technical challenges, Apple’s smart glasses prove to be, Gurman does not indicate when we may see them land on the market. Given the roadmap laid out thus far, it may be a few years.
