Apple Expects Majority of iPhone 16 Sales to Be Pro Models
New supply chain data indicates that Apple expects the Pro models of the upcoming iPhone 16 series to account for the majority of its sales, 9to5Mac is reporting.

According to a recent report, component orders placed by Apple suggest that nearly two-thirds of iPhone 16 sales will come from the two Pro models.
A key indicator of Apple’s expectations lies in the company’s decision to extend the periscope lens—a feature currently exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro Max—to the smaller iPhone 16 Pro model. This move is seen as a sign that Apple anticipates strong demand for the Pro variants.
The periscope lens, which offers enhanced optical zoom capabilities, is a significant selling point that could drive consumers to opt for the more premium models.
Typically, Apple diversifies its component orders among multiple suppliers to minimize risk and enhance its negotiating leverage. This practice often makes it challenging to gauge the total volume of orders. However, in this instance, LG Innotech has secured an exclusive contract to supply the periscope lens module for the iPhone 16 series.
LG Innotech’s exclusive deal covers the initial batch of the periscope lens modules for the iPhone 16 series, which is slated for release in the second half of this year. The report indicates that Apple has ordered enough of these units to cover 70% of the anticipated demand for the entire iPhone 16 lineup

Industry estimates project that by the end of this year, Apple plans to produce approximately 90.1 million units of the iPhone 16 series. Collectively, the two Pro models are expected to comprise 67% of the total production, underscoring Apple’s focus on its higher-end offerings.
To ensure reliability in the initial production phase, Apple is limiting the supply of the periscope lens to LG Innotech. However, the company is expected to bring on a second supplier, potentially Cowell or Foxconn, once those firms can meet Apple’s stringent quality and yield requirements.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple will likely hold its iPhone 16 launch keynote event on Tuesday, September 10, 2024.

Interesting conversation with an Apple sales rep the other day. Let's call it all conjecture on his part. 😏
Obviously – given the timeline – don't buy / lease any iPhone over the next month unless your provider can offer a seriously good deal – and he means seriously. So much about to become old stock. The 13 will go away. The base 14 and 15 will remain, as will 15 Pro. Current Maxes probably gone. Then there will be the new 16 models.
14, 15, 15 Pro will all drop in price. If you really don't care about 'Apple Intelligence' (the oxymoron), consider getting the 14. Incremental differences and 'Squirrel!' features between 14 and 15 make the discounted 14 a good bet for most users. Remember, the 14 was the current model only a year ago. 15 Pro will be basic AI-compatible, whatever features that might eventually, realistically involve – so why bother with base 15 at all? The current SE will hang around until the spring, when next SE is expected – potentially with AI capabilities. And for cheaper than any of the above.
As for me, I'll probably hold onto my 12 Mini until Apple or my provider can give me a compelling offer I can't refuse…
