iOS Users Can Now Edit DM Messages on X, Here What You Need to Know

X (formally Twitter) has rolled out the ability to edit a DM. This feature is now available to iOS users. It allows you to edit a direct message after already sending it to another user.
The feature is detailed on an X Help Center page. “We’re excited to introduce a new feature on X that allows you to edit your direct messages (DMs),” it reads. The ability to edit DMs “enhances your ability to correct mistakes, refine your thoughts, or update information after sending a message.”
To edit and change a DM on X, iOS users will want to find the DM thread first and formost. Next, locate the message you’d like to edit within the thread. Afterwards, you’ll want to perform a long press on the message or click the three dot menu. You’ll then see the ‘Edit’ option in the menu in which case you can select it. It’ll prompt you to edit the text in which you can do so as you see fit. Finally, click ‘Save’ and it’ll now reflect your changes.
Some things to consider, as outlined by the Help Center page. First off, all messages that that have been edited will had an ‘Edited’ note underneath the message. Additionally, there is no time limit on when you can edit a message. Messages can also be edited up to five times each. According to X, this “ensures that the conversation remains coherent and prevents excessive revisions.”
Theoretically, this allows users on iOS to go weeks or months back into a conversation and edit messages. It’s also stated that reactions and replies to the original version of the DM will be left unchanged. As will its original timestamp.
This feature is now available on iOS via the latest version of the app. There’s currently no word on when the web or Android version of X will recieve support.
