Fido Just Increased its Plans by $5 Per Month
Rogers-owned Fido has tweaked its plan pricing again, this time increasing its plans by $5 per month.
Compared to mid-August, plans have increased to the following (after automatic payments discount):
- $44/20GB (was $39)
- $49/40GB (new)
- $54/60GB (was $49)

The $44/50GB plan has been eliminated, and instead $49/40GB has appeared.
Fido, like parent company Rogers, charges $70 for its “setup service fee” if you do not activate online.
Rivals Virgin Plus and Koodo have not increased their prices yet to match.
Here’s current Virgin Plus pricing:
- $39/50GB
- $49/60GB
- $65/75GB 5G
Virgin does have its pay per use data now at $25/month (after a $5 credit for 24 months).
Here is what Koodo has right now (just two plans):
- $39/50GB
- $49/60GB
Koodo also has a $25/month pay per use data plan, like Virgin Plus.
We could be seeing price hikes from Fido so when Black Friday promos appear in November, they look even better than before.

Why do the flankers keep bouncing their plan pricing around. Best to hookup with PC Mobile.
PC Mobile is Canada/USA and 5G and runs on Bell network and no connection fee.
$29/20GB plus get 5GB bonus for auto top up.
$34/50GB plus get 5GB bonus for auto top up.
$40/75GB plus get 5GB bonus for auto top up.
Even more interestingly, a number of the cell providers have also spiked the price of the now discontinued iPhone 15 Pro – both on lease and financed – some quite substantially. Apple has pulled them from online store, but still available in some of their stores for $1299, down from $1499 – so you'd think the prices of it would actually drop at the cell companies as they try and get rid of old stock.
Now granted, the 15 Pro the only regularly-sized current iPhone that will be able to handle Apple Intelligence, so that's a bonus for it, but not at the spike the companies are charging.
Meanwhile, this morning – I got a call from Koodo / Telus, doing a followup to a comment I posted in Koodo's Community site, also cc'd up the food chain via email. This comment was on how Koodo seemed incapable of honouring the price of a plan (BYOD) for more than a couple of months at a time, and / or 'offering' more GB of data than you need at a 'sale' price. The clerk was very nice and all, noted my actual usage, 'valued me as a customer', and offered me an immediate change to $25 / 30 GB.
I guess I'll just see how long that lasts. Or if I choose to do a new phone / plan anytime soon, negating all this.
She tells me Black Friday sales should start appearing the beginning of October!! I guess that's right, as Christmas decorations will certainly be out on sale by then… 🤪
