Sony PS5 Pro Canadian Pricing is $959.99 [Update]

playstation pro reveal

Sony today announced the PlayStation 5 Pro, touted as its most advanced console to date, set to launch on November 7, 2024. This was announced at the company’s hyped “technical presentation” earlier today.

The PS5 Pro boasts a 67% more powerful GPU, advanced ray tracing, and AI-driven upscaling for sharper graphics and smoother gameplay, helped by 28% faster memory.

The PS5 Pro delivers up to 45% faster rendering, improved image quality, and support for 8K gaming and VRR. It retains the same look as the PS5, with a 2TB SSD and compatibility with existing PS5 accessories, while Wi-Fi 7 is now here. The console will include a DualSense controller and Astro’s Playroom pre-installed.

Customers will be able to add an Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive, or swap out console covers when they become available.

Games from PlayStation Studios and third-party partners, including “Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth,” “Marvel’s Spider-Man 2,” and “The Last of Us Part II Remastered,” will be enhanced with free updates for PS5 Pro features.

PS5 Pro Game Boost can be applied to over 8,500 backward-compatible PS4 games, so they can be played on the new console.

“Our PS5 journey would not be possible without the millions of players who have supported us through the years and have shared with us their love of gaming. Whichever console option players choose, whether it’s PS5 or PS5 Pro, we wish to bring everyone the very best gaming experience that fits their needs,” said Hideaki Nishino
CEO, Platform Business Group, Sony Interactive Entertainment, in a statement.

The console will be available at $699.99 USD ($959.99 CAD official pricing). That’s a hefty price, especially with no disc drive available. You can get a current PS5 disc edition with Spider-Man 2 for $899 right now. It’s likely existing PS5 prices might drop with this release (disc editions are sold out on Amazon).

Preorders start on September 26, 2024, at participating retailers and PlayStation’s direct store. We’ve reached out to Sony for Canadian PlayStation 5 Pro pricing, stay tuned for updates.

Update Sept. 10: In Canada, the PS5 Pro pricing will be $959.99 CAD with pre-orders on Sept. 26, according to Sony in a statement to iPhone in Canada, with availability on November 7, 2024.

Is that price including the disc drive, or no? This needs to be made clear for more accurate pricing.

I highly doubt it. Every other territory had the price announced that doesn't include a disc drive. We're looking at $1100 with the drive and stand.

I would advise against standing vertically. As much as Sony is trying to deny it, it has been proven standing vertically can lead to liquid metal leaks from the cpu cooler. Also it's 2024, PC's stopped using discs 15 years ago. We should be happy they've created a solution that allows for such an easy add on while also removing the base cost from the console itself.

Okay? You might want to reply to the original post. I wasn't really asking for any of that information.

It's 2024 and if you want places like Gamestop to keep selling your consoles, you need disc based media. Which is what they found out years ago when Xbox was thinking of a disc-less console generation.

PC doesn't need disc, (although some would prefer to still have the option) because of access to high download servers and multiple store fronts. Console doesn't have this.

we would be happy at the solution if it wasn't just going to be an added cost with the burden placed directly in front of the customer. The fact that people are buying up the disc tray proves people want disc still and that it's also being used for reselling.

"That’s a hefty price, especially with no disc drive available."

Disc drive not included, unfortunately.
