Rogers CTIO Ron McKenzie Announces Retirement

Ron McKenzie, Chief Technology and Information Officer at Rogers, announced his retirement on Friday. McKenzie shared the news on LinkedIn, reflecting on his long tech career.
“It’s been an incredible journey and an honour to be part of our industry, helping to bring technological advancements that have truly changed the way we live and connect,” McKenzie said.
McKenzie, who joined Rogers in 2019, has held various leadership roles, including President of Rogers for Business and Senior Vice President of Technical Operations.
During his tenure as CTIO, McKenzie led key projects, including launching 5G on the TTC subway, completing Canada’s first 5G slicing and Cloud RAN trial, and executing the first satellite-to-cell phone call in the country.
“Being the CTIO of Rogers has been an incredible honour,” McKenzie stated, adding that leading Rogers’ technology team was a career highlight. “I am so proud of everything we accomplished together.”
After the devastating nationwide Rogers network outage in 2022, the company replaced its then CTIO Jorge Fernandes with McKenzie. After just two years in the new role, McKenzie says he’s now retiring.
McKenzie will remain as an advisor to Rogers’ CEO until the end of the year he said.
