macOS Sequoia Update Disrupts Key Cybersecurity Softwares

Since its launch on Monday, macOS 15 Sequoia has led to functionality issues with numerous cybersecurity tools from major companies like CrowdStrike, SentinelOne, and Microsoft, TechCrunch is reporting.

Though the root cause of the issues remains unclear, it appears that the update has disrupted several key security products, leaving users and developers scrambling for solutions.

Patrick Wardle, founder of Mac and iOS security startup DoubleYou, expressed his concerns about the situation. He highlighted the challenge developers face when users blame them for the issues caused by Apple’s updates.

“As a developer of macOS security tools, it’s incredibly frustrating to repeatedly deal with users blaming your tools for breaking their Macs, when it’s Apple’s fault all along,” said Wardle, who has been involved in macOS security for years.

Wardle also criticized Apple for prioritizing marketing over thorough software testing, suggesting that better pre-launch testing could have avoided the current problems. “Maybe if Apple spent less time and money on marketing and more on actually testing their software, we’d all be better off,” he said.

Multiple Reddit users have reported issues with CrowdStrike’s security tools after updating to the new macOS. Additionally, ESET, a popular cybersecurity company, also experienced network connection issues with Sequoia, though they later confirmed that their products are compatible with the update.

Microsoft Defender for macOS users have also reported issues following the update, with similar reports of network disruptions and functionality problems.

Adding to the list of complications, users have also reported issues with Firefox after upgrading to macOS Sequoia, according to posts in a Reddit thread.

As of now, Apple has not commented on the situation.
