Amazon has introduced its In-Garage Delivery service to Prime members in Canada, offering a more secure way to receive packages. The service allows couriers to place deliveries directly inside customers’ garages, helping to protect packages from theft and bad weather. Previously only available in the US, it’s now landed in Canada.

“At Amazon, we’re obsessed with making deliveries more convenient for our customers,” said Kaushik Mani, Director of Amazon Key, in a statement to iPhone in Canada.

“After delighting Prime members with more than 60 million convenient and secure deliveries inside garages in the U.S., we are thrilled to now offer this service to our members in Canada. This innovative service unlocks the full potential of the Amazon Prime experience, providing members with unmatched convenience and peace of mind that their deliveries will be protected,” said Mani.

As part of a limited-time promotion, Prime members who set up In-Garage Delivery and place their first eligible order by October 22, 2024, will receive a $10 Amazon credit.

To qualify, customers must have a compatible smart garage door product, such as those from myQ, Chamberlain, or LiftMaster, and link it to Amazon Key in the Amazon app.

As for security, Amazon says drivers are told to go no further than 1.5 metres into your garage. Once your garage is closed it cannot be opened again, as drivers get one-time use codes, only available if they scan your package.

If you see a myQ logo and a WiFi logo, or “powered by myQ” on your garage door opener, all you need to do is download the myQ app and follow the steps to connect your garage door opener(s) to the myQ app.

You can also turn your existing garage door ‘smart’ by purchasing myQ Smart Garage Control.

Amazon Key In-Garage Delivery is now available in over 1,700 locations across Canada, including major cities like Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, Calgary, Winnipeg, Halifax, and Ottawa.

The service, which is currently free on promo until March 31, 2025, will cost $1.99 CAD per order afterward. Customers can also choose “Key Delivery – Pick Your Day” at checkout to avoid the fee, selecting a specific delivery date.

Amazon says the service is easy to set up, and delivery drivers are granted one-time access to open the garage for the drop-off. This makes sense if you’re ordering heavy or expensive items and want it to be conveniently and safely delivered to your home.

For more information and to see if your garage door is compatible, scan the QR code on this website through the Amazon app.
