Epic Games Introduces Time Limit Parental Controls for Fortnite

Epic Games has rolled out two new parental control features aimed at helping parents monitor and manage their children’s time spent on Fortnite and Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN).

The new tools, Time Limit Controls and Time Reports, provide guardians with greater oversight, ensuring that young players maintain a healthy balance between gaming and other activities.

What Are Time Limit Controls?

The Time Limit Controls allow parents to set specific boundaries on how much time their child can spend playing Fortnite or using UEFN each day. This feature can be easily activated through the Parental Controls section located in Fortnite’s main menu or via the Epic Account Portal on the web. Parents are given full control to:

  • Limit total daily gameplay hours.
  • Set specific time windows during which gameplay is allowed, and establish limits within those windows.
  • Enable or disable their child’s ability to request extra playtime when they approach their set limit.

Once a time limit is set, children will receive in-game notifications when they have 30 minutes of gameplay remaining in both Fortnite and UEFN. As the countdown approaches zero, they are reminded that their time is almost up.

Time Limit Controls are synced across all devices and consoles as long as the player uses the same Epic Games account. These time limits automatically pause when Fortnite enters sleep mode or when UEFN is idle, so inactive time won’t count against the child’s gaming allowance.

For those who activate Time Reports, parents will gain access to a detailed dashboard in the Epic Account Portal. This dashboard provides a daily breakdown of their child’s activity in Fortnite and UEFN, including how much time was spent playing and any instances where additional time was granted.

To activate Time Limit Controls or Time Reports, parents simply need to navigate to the Parental Controls section in the Fortnite menu or log into their Epic Account Portal.
