Amazon Says Prime Video is Getting More Ads Soon

Amazon’s Prime Video will be increasing the number of ad slots available for brands in 2025, according to Kelly Day, Vice President of Prime Video International.

Speaking to the Financial Times ahead of the company’s first advertising “up front” event in London, Day shared that Prime Video’s ad load will “ramp up a little bit more” next year.

Prime Video first launched its ad-supported service earlier in 2024 with minimal ad interruptions, such as no mid-show ads, as a way to ease customers into the experience. The service then automatically moved over 200 million global subscribers to this ad-supported tier, unless they opted to pay more for the premium ad-free version, which costs $2.99/month in Canada, on top of their annual Prime subscription.

While Day declined to reveal the number of customers who have chosen the ad-free tier, she did admit that it was lower than the 20% figure estimated by some analysts.

What’s next? Amazon plans to roll out new interactive and “shoppable” ad formats for Prime Video. Viewers will be able to add items to their cart or learn more about brands by clicking their remote or scanning a mobile device, all without leaving their show.

Day said the response to ads has been better than expected, and Prime Video is now looking to build on that momentum as it expands its advertising offerings in 2025. So yeah, get ready for more ads to hit Prime Video, folks.

We uninstalled Amazon Prime on every device when they started charging $3 to remove ads. This is just going to drive more people to torrent.

We signed up for Prime during Covid for the shipping. No longer need the shipping and paying for an ad loaded service seems wrong. Going to cancel this week.
