TikTok has introduced a dedicated science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) feed for Canadian users, bringing a section solely for educational videos.

The new feed, which will be turned on by default for all Canadian users, aims to provide a space for educational videos and connect a community of learners and creators passionate about STEM topics.

The STEM feed will feature content from popular Canadian creators such as @AsapSCIENCE, @onlinekyne, and @science.bae, along with organizations like the Royal Ontario Museum and Science North. These creators share educational videos that merge entertainment with learning, offering users a chance to expand their knowledge while browsing TikTok.

“When I open my phone, I want to learn something new,” said Gregory Brown and Mitchell Moffit of @AsapSCIENCE, in a statement to iPhone in Canada. “The STEM feed is a great opportunity to reward creators for making valuable content and provide people with a chance to grow, understand a little more about the world, and feel better about their phone use.”

TikTok has partnered with Common Sense Networks and the Poynter Institute to make sure quality content hits the STEM feed. Common Sense reviews content for age-appropriateness, while Poynter looks at the reliability of the information shared in the STEM feed. If content doesn’t pass both checks, it won’t be featured.

“STEM education sparks curiosity and critical thinking in our children, which is why it’s at the root of what I do and love,” said Sarah Habibi (@science.bae). “I am so excited that TikTok sees the value of STEM learning with the launch of its new STEM feed in Canada.”

Within the TikTok app in Home view, up top you’ll now see ‘STEM’ appear next to ‘Live’ and ‘Following’. TikTok says “millions of Canadians” use the app each month to share and consume content. The social network says STEM-related hashtags have seen over 110 billion views to date.
