Samsung Releases New One UI Update for Smart TVs

Samsung has started rolling out a new update for its smart TVs that brings One UI to your living room screen (via SamMobile).

The update comes less than two weeks after the South Korean tech giant announced it at the Samsung Developer Conference (SDC) 2024. One UI for Samsung’s smart TVs is based on the company’s proprietary Tizen 8.0 OS. It is first making its way to smart TV models released in 2023, such as the S90C OLED.

“Immerse yourself in a unique Samsung screen experience with personalized content, optimized gaming, fitness, and seamless connectivity for a wide range of devices,” reads the official changelog for the update from Samsung.

One UI for smart TVs brings a fresh new interface to Samsung’s sets, complete with several new UI elements and improvements, additional Game Bar features, and more.

The new smart TV UI takes several cues — in both design and functionality — from the One UI software on Samsung’s phones and tablets. For example, app icons for Bixby, Gallery, Samsung Internet, and SmartThings on updated Samsung TVs all match their mobile counterparts. Other aspects of the interface, such as the Settings menus and pop-ups for things like Bluetooth and Sound Output, have all received a visual overhaul to bring them more in line with the One UI design language.

Some highlights of the new additions in the new OS include an updated web engine, a new “For You” tab with personalized recommendations, new Live and Apps tabs, a “Watch Later” feature, improved search, support for Multi Control, better data protection measures, and more.

Earlier this year, Bell Media launched 10 new FAST (Free Ad-Supported Streaming TV) channels on Samsung TVs.
