Google Starts Rolling Out Android 15 to Pixel Devices

Google today started rolling out Android 15 to Pixel devices, bringing new security features, improvements for large-screen devices, camera app upgrades, and more.

This comes after Google previously confirmed Android 15 would be coming to Pixel devices sometime in October. Android 15 has been in Developer Preview since February. The update is already making its way to some users, with a mass rollout expected later this week.

“These updates include security features that help keep your sensitive health, financial and personal information protected from theft and fraud,” Seang Chau, Vice President and General Manager of Android Platform at Google, said in a blog post.

“Plus, we’re introducing improvements for large-screen devices that help you get more done, and updates across apps including camera, messaging and passkey.”

Android 15 comes with Google’s new Theft Detection Lock, which uses AI to determine if your device has been stolen and automatically lock it. Google is also introducing measures to prevent thieves from guessing your passwords and accessing sensitive information, all while locking actions like removing your SIM or disabling Find My Device behind additional authentication.

Also included in Android 15 is “Private Space,” a new digital safe that allows users to keep sensitive apps away from prying eyes. Meanwhile, large-screen devices like tablets and foldables will see Android 15 bring a slew of changes to improve productivity and customizability.

The camera app in Android 15 is getting Low Light Boost and improvements to in-app controls for better performance in low-light conditions. What’s more, Android 15 will also allow carrier messaging apps to send and receive texts over a satellite connection when Wi-Fi and cellular aren’t available. This is Google’s answer to Apple’s Messages via Satellite feature, which launched in Canada last month.

Android 15 will be available on the Pixel 6 series and up. Here’s a list of all supported Pixel devices:
