Apple Pay Celebrates its 10th Birthday, Expands Features

Apple announced today its mobile wallet Apple Pay is celebrating its 10-year anniversary.
Apple Pay now operates in 78 countries, with support from over 11,000 financial partners, said the iPhone maker on Thursday.
iPhone in Canada first broke the news Apple Pay was coming to Canada with American Express as the first launch partner, back in the fall of 2015.
“From day one, we aimed to create a world where you could use your iPhone to pay for anything — groceries, transit, or online shopping — securely and privately,” said Jennifer Bailey, Apple’s vice president of Apple Pay and Apple Wallet.
According to Apple, 90% of users cite ease of use as a reason they love the service, while 88% appreciate the privacy, and 87% highlight the security. It’s true that Apple Pay is so easy to use on iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Mac, especially with Touch ID and Face ID authentication. Being able to pay for things with your Apple Watch when you forget your wallet is pretty great.
Apple says it is expanding checkout options. Canadians will soon be able to access Klarna’s flexible payment options soon on iPhone and iPad, both online and in-app.
Apple Pay is now also available with third-party browsers and computers in iOS 18 or iPadOS 18. At checkout, users will be asked to use their iPhone or iPad to scan a code, then securely pay with Apple Pay using their iPhone or iPad.
Next year, Apple says those in the U.S. will be able to see their PayPal balances in Apple Wallet, when using PayPal debit cards.
