Kuo: Apple Has Cut iPhone 16 Orders by 10 Million Units for 2024-25

Apple has reduced its production orders for the iPhone 16 by approximately 10 million units, with the bulk of the cuts impacting non-Pro models, according to Ming-Chi Kuo.

The veteran Apple analyst from TF International Securities revealed these insights in his latest industry report via a post on Medium. This cutback is expected to impact production throughout the end of 2024 and into the first half of 2025, notes Kuo.

He adds that the estimated production volume for the iPhone 16 in the second half of 2024 has been revised down to 84 million units, a decrease from the previously forecasted 88 million units. This adjustment reflects lower demand projections for the iPhone 16, particularly the non-Pro versions of the device.

Kuo’s report suggests that while Apple’s more premium models, such as the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max, may fare better, the cuts are concentrated on the standard and SE models, signaling a weaker demand for these variants.

The downward revision also impacts quarterly production expectations for the iPhone across the end of 2024 and the beginning of 2025. Forecasts now suggest Apple will produce around 80 million iPhones in the fourth quarter of 2024, down from the 84 million units produced in the same period in 2023.

The trend continues in early 2025, with Q1 production now projected at 45 million units, down from 48 million in the first quarter of 2024. The second quarter of 2025 is expected to see production fall to 39 million units, lower than the 41 million produced in Q2 2024.

Despite the reduction in iPhone 16 production, Kuo predicts that Apple’s revenue for the fourth quarter of 2024 may not be immediately affected. This is partly because the gap between production and actual sales was larger in 2023 than in 2024.

Additionally, the product mix in 2024 appears to be more favourable, with increased production of the premium iPhone 16 Pro Max model for the months of September and October.

October is almost over!

How many fools bought the iPhone 16 when the 17 is supposed to be completely redesigned and come with 12 GB or RAM?

I finally upgraded from 10x model to 16 Pro. This sucker is lightning fast compared to the old era tech I was using. Happy with it so far.
