Apple to Begin Using AI-Generated Summarized User Reviews in App Store

Apple is reportedly introducing summarized user reviews within the App Store, generated by AI. This will ideally give users an easy-to-understand run down of what other users think of a game or app.
According to 9to5Mac, Apple has developed a new AI-driven system that uses user reviews on the App Store to generate a summary. As reportedly seen in an unlisted App Store article, Apple will use these summaries to highlight “the most common customer feedback” about each game or app.
Ideally, the goal of this is to allow users to receive more informed reviews of an app. Apple will leverage AI to identify if an app is delivering on its promise to consumers via the App Store. Each time a user writes a new review, it’s claimed that the generated summaries will be updated to reflect any nominal changes.
As of the time of writing, there’s no word on how the generated summaries will be formatted on the App Store listing. It’s assumed that these summaries will be readily available to view alongside each individual app’s description and screenshots. It’s also believed that Apple will leverage some sort of online generation system rather than Apple Intelligence’s local processing.
The report continues to state that the summaries will be auto-generated. However, developers will be able to monitor and report when summaries are made to be “inaccurate.”
“An app may have a summary that highlights the most common customer feedback and sentiment in user reviews about the app. The summaries are refreshed as new reviews are added. Summaries are available in select countries and regions and for apps with enough reviews to provide a summary. They appear on the app’s product page. If the summary is inaccurate or has another issue, you can report a problem.”
It’s said that these summaries will first be generated when an app receives enough feedback and user reviews. This feature will be available in “select countries and regions.” Unfortunately, it’s not yet known when this feature will roll out or when it will be available in Canada. It’s believed that since it was discovered in the App Store API, it may be sooner rather than later.
