Bell Employees in Shock as Fresh Layoff Notices Roll Out

Reports on the Bell subreddit indicate another round of layoff notices rolling out, sparking concern among employees.

One user described seeing letters posted in primary office locations, notifying staff about which “Management Employees” and Business Units would be impacted. “Here we go again,” the user wrote, adding that similar postings marked the beginning of layoffs earlier this year.

The original poster shared their experience, saying they received an email notice about the first wave of layoffs but hadn’t yet seen letters posted in the office. “Oh well… this is sad,” they wrote.

“Bell gave everyone a “return from long weekend” surprise by laying off a large number of people from the corporate side, from all levels up to director. This time Bell didn’t even announce anything, unlike the mass layoff earlier this year,” said the original poster on Tuesday.

In a reply expressing shock, a lineman based in Granby, Quebec, revealed they were among those being let go, set to leave by December 31. “I’ve worked here for 14 years. I started at 19,” the worker shared, adding that they had relocated to Granby three years ago for the job. “I love being a lineman for Expertech… but next year, I’ll be jobless. My experience is worth nothing because telecom right now is not hiring. I am so lost right now.”

Another commenter mentioned that several high-level managers were recently laid off, with others warned to expect “upcoming changes.”

A Bell spokesperson told iPhone in Canada that the layoffs are part of a broader restructuring announced earlier in the year, and that the total number of layoffs remains unchanged.

“Like most organizations in this ever-changing market, we regularly assess and make necessary changes to better align resources with long-term growth strategies and revenue expectations,” said the Bell spokesperson.

Back in February, Bell announced it would be cutting 4,800 jobs, blaming the federal government for the losses. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called the cuts a “garbage decision”, while BC’s Premier called the cuts the “crapification” (is that a word?) of local news. In Q2, Bell saw increased profits after the initial job cuts.

Those were lost years ago, these losses are mostly media related to traditional media, as it is dying a slow death and the result of a slowdown in building additional infrastructure..

Yet Bibic shows his smug mug on BNN talking about the lousy 8Bn $ acquisition of Ziply, after failing to outbid Verizon for Frontier.
Glad they are transparent and forthcoming /s.
I loathe this guy, he's the epitome of arrogance and disdain for the public and his own employees.

They haven't been paying attention.
One would only need to look at Bell's last quarter financial report to know they are bleeding money. You can't continue to take billions of dollars in losses and not make cuts, they aren't the government.

Yeah…okay – from an article from this very website 8 months ago:

Bell Execs Paid Millions in Bonuses Despite Financial Shortfalls
——
Bell awarded CEO Mirko Bibic a compensation package totaling $13.43 million in the past year, despite the company not meeting its 2023 financial targets, reports the Globe and Mail.

You won't get an argument from me on your comment, executives always find a way to get over compensated.

But, employee's being surprised when Bell is losing money thinking there won't be cuts to employment is naive.

The point I was getting at is Bell is predatory and manipulative.
Perhaps if they were less aggressive preying on its customers, they wouldn't be losing money.

Seriously, there are three providers in this country – they have a captive audience – how do they lose money without mismanagement is beyond me.

I'm deeply disappointed with Bell's decision to implement massive cuts across thousands of management positions at all levels, especially just before the holiday season. This move not only shows a lack of empathy but also feels like a harsh blow to the dedicated employees who have spent years contributing to the company's success.

Timing layoffs so close to the holidays is both heartless and demoralizing, leaving many families uncertain about their futures during what is supposed to be a time of joy and celebration. It’s disheartening to see a company of Bell’s stature prioritize cost-cutting measures over the well-being of its workforce, particularly during a period that should be focused on gratitude and togetherness.

The abruptness of these cuts reflects poorly on Bell’s commitment to its employees, undermining the trust and loyalty that management teams have shown over the years. While companies sometimes need to make tough financial decisions, the way Bell has handled this situation seems inconsiderate and misaligned with the values they claim to uphold.

This decision could have long-lasting negative impacts not only on employee morale but also on Bell’s reputation as an employer. I hope Bell reconsiders the way they approach such significant decisions in the future, especially when it affects so many lives during such a sensitive time of year.
