Mosseri Highlights Threads’ Growth as Platform Adds 15 Million Signups

Despite the growing popularity of Bluesky, Meta’s Threads continues to see significant user growth. According to Instagram and Threads head Adam Mosseri, Threads amassed more than 15 million new signups in November.

Mosseri shared this update in a post on Thursday, appearing to emphasize that Threads remains larger than Bluesky, which recently hit a total of 15 million users.

This surge in signups highlights the continued interest in Threads, which has been gaining over a million new users per day for the past few months, a trend that CEO Mark Zuckerberg initially revealed during Meta’s latest earnings call.

With many users seeking alternatives to X, platforms like Bluesky and Threads have been experiencing increased signups. However, Threads, backed by Meta and integrated with Instagram, has a much larger user base and continues to attract millions of users each month.

While Threads continues to grow, Mosseri acknowledged that the platform still has room for improvement. In his post, he addressed ongoing concerns from users, including issues related to content moderation, engagement bait, misinformation, and the algorithmic feed.

“We have a lot more work to do,” Mosseri admitted, but he emphasized that Meta’s teams are working hard to meet the needs of the Threads community.

One potential hurdle for Threads could be Meta’s rumored plan to introduce ads on the platform. Although this could provide a revenue stream for the company, the move may not sit well with users, especially those who have expressed concerns about the overall user experience and the platform’s long-term vision.

By encouraging users to create a unique social graph on Threads, Meta is attempting to differentiate the platform from Instagram while still capitalizing on the connection between the two apps.
