How to Erase Your iPhone [VIDEO]

Apple has published a new support video detailing how to erase your iPhone and restore it to factory settings, either from your iPhone or from your computer.

Erase iPhone.

This step-by-step process ensures that all personal information is removed, making it ideal for those preparing to sell, trade in, or repurpose their device.

1. Back Up Your Device

Before resetting, ensure you’ve created a backup of your device. A backup allows you to restore your data and settings later. You can back up your device using iCloud or by connecting it to a computer with iTunes or Finder on macOS.

2. Begin the Erase Process

To erase your iPhone directly:

  • Open Settings on your device.
  • Navigate to General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Erase All Content and Settings.

This action will remove all your personal information, apps, and settings, restoring the phone to its original factory condition.

3. Enter Necessary Passwords

You may be prompted to enter your passcode or Apple ID password to proceed. These security measures protect against unauthorized resets.

If you’ve forgotten your Apple ID password or device passcode, you’ll need to recover or reset it through Apple’s support tools before proceeding.

4. Confirm and Manage eSIM Settings

When prompted, confirm that you want to erase the device. If your iPhone uses an eSIM, you’ll be given the choice to erase it as well. Removing your eSIM will deactivate your cellular plan, requiring you to contact your carrier to reactivate it on the same or a new device. If you plan to keep using the eSIM on your current plan, select the option to retain it.

5. Complete the Process

The process typically takes a few minutes. Once complete, your iPhone will restart, displaying the setup screen as if it were new.
