Amazon Launches New Alexa Tablets in Canada, Now With Google Play

Amazon has unveiled three new Alexa Tablets in Canada with Alexa+ built in and full access to the Google Play Store, marking a major shift from its Fire tablet lineup. Preorders are open now on Amazon.ca, with shipping starting Wednesday, October 14, 2026. Pricing starts at $299.99 CAD.
The biggest change is software. Amazon’s Fire tablets have used Fire OS and Amazon’s own Appstore since 2011. An Android-based revamp was first reported last year. The new tablets run Android with Google Play, so apps such as YouTube, Netflix, Gmail and Google Docs can be installed directly. No more unofficial sideloading of your favourite apps is necessary.
Amazon Alexa Tablet 12 Pro
The flagship Alexa Tablet 12 Pro has a 12-inch display with 280 PPI, a 120Hz refresh rate and 3:2 aspect ratio. It uses a 6.5mm aluminum body, quad Dolby Atmos speakers and Wi-Fi 6E.
Inside is a 4nm 8-core processor with up to 16GB of RAM. Amazon says it delivers nearly three times faster processing and nine times faster graphics than any tablet it has shipped before, with up to 16 hours of video playback.
Canadian pricing is $749.99 with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, or $799.99 for the Nanomatte version, which uses etched glass designed to cut glare without heavily reducing colour or contrast.
Amazon Alexa Tablet 8 and Alexa Tablet 11
The Alexa Tablet 11 is aimed more at entertainment, with an 11-inch 2.5K display, 276 PPI, a 90Hz refresh rate and 16:10 aspect ratio.
It runs on an 8-core processor with 8GB of RAM, includes dual Dolby Atmos speakers and offers up to 15 hours of video playback. It comes in Graphite, Amethyst and Matcha.
Pricing is $449.99 with 64GB of storage or $529.99 with 128GB.
The smaller Alexa Tablet 8 is the most portable model, with an 8.7-inch display, aluminum body and weight of 329g. It measures 7.95mm thin. It has an 8-core processor, Wi-Fi 6 and up to 14 hours of video playback. Colour options include Graphite, Rosette and Teal.
Canadian pricing is $299.99 with 64GB of storage or $359.99 with 128GB.
Alexa+ and Kids Tablets

Alexa+ can be opened by voice or with an Ask Alexa button, while an optional On-Screen Intelligence feature can read information shown on the display. Amazon says the feature is off by default and requires users to opt in.
New Kids Tablet bundles are also coming in 8.7-inch and 11-inch sizes. Alexa+ is already available in Canada after Amazon launched it nationally in June.
