Meta’s Messenger is rolling out a suite of new features to enhance the way users connect, including AI-generated backgrounds, HD video calls, noise suppression, and more.

Building on its previous release of AI-generated chat themes, Messenger now allows users to personalize their video calls with AI-created backgrounds. These dynamic visuals can reflect your mood, add a touch of creativity, or simply make your calls more engaging.

To use this feature, simply tap the effects icon in the video call sidebar, select “Backgrounds,” and start designing a backdrop tailored to your call.

Messenger is also introducing HD video calling as a default setting for calls made over WiFi, offering sharper visuals for face-to-face conversations. Users who prefer HD video while on cellular data can enable this option through their call settings by toggling on “Mobile data for HD video.”

Additionally, Messenger now includes background noise suppression and voice isolation, ensuring conversations remain crisp and distraction-free. These audio features can also be activated via the app’s call settings, enhancing call quality even in noisy environments.

For those moments when your friends or loved ones can’t answer, Messenger now offers the ability to leave video or audio messages. Users can tap the “Record message” button during unanswered calls to send personalized video or audio clips.

Lastly, Messenger now integrates with Siri for effortless, hands-free calling and messaging on iOS. Whether your hands are tied or your phone is out of reach, you can ask Siri to help. For instance, you can say, “Hey Siri, send a message to Alex on Messenger,” and dictate your message.

The new features are gradually being rolled out to Messenger users worldwide.
