Google Photos Drops Your 2024 Yearbook–With a Twist

Google Photos is giving you a new way to relive your year with its 2024 Recap feature. It highlights your best moments, complete with cinematic effects and fun graphics.
The Recap digs into your photo library to create insights like who you smiled with the most, the person you took the most pictures of, and even the dominant colours in your photos.
For those in the U.S., some users can opt in for an AI-powered version (thanks to Gemini) that adds captions to highlight your top two moments from the year. Looking at the preview video below, that’s actually really cool and is something Apple’s Photos app should do.
You’ll get summaries of how many photos you took (and how many equivalent rolls of film that would be), how many videos you took, while the recap also takes a look at your “imperfect snaps” as well, which are some of those blurry photos from impromptu moments, for example.
It’s possible to share your yearbook, so you can let your friends and family join in on the 2024 recap. Notifications will let you know when your Recap is ready. Once live, it’ll stay in your Memories section through the month before moving to your photo grid in January.
Check the Google Photos app to see how your 2024 unfolded. Here’s a video preview of what the Google Photos 2024 recap will look like:

If I need to find photos in the past, I use Google Photos. Apple Photos is pretty useless.
