Sports Content Gains Momentum

Sports enthusiasts flocked to YouTube in record numbers, with TV watch time for sports content growing by over 30% year over year. The platform became a hub for game highlights, post-match interviews, and in-depth analyses.

To enhance this experience, YouTube piloted “Watch With”, a feature allowing creators to provide live commentary and reactions during games and events.

Families also turned to YouTube on TV for shared entertainment. Channels like Ms. Rachel, known for educational and child-friendly content, achieved some of the highest watch times across the platform.

To better support parents, YouTube introduced features like easily switching between YouTube and YouTube Kids profiles and the new parent code functionality. These updates provide enhanced control over children’s viewing habits.

Podcasts Flourish on TV

In 2024, podcasts transcended traditional audio formats to thrive on TV screens. Monthly podcast watch times on living room devices surpassed 400 million hours, with viewers treating podcasts like late-night talk shows.

High-Quality Content for Big Screens

The rise of 4K content played a key role in enhancing the TV viewing experience. The share of YouTube videos uploaded in 4K increased by over 35% year over year, allowing creators to deliver crystal-clear visuals optimized for large screens.

And yet the living room experience on tv continues to be an abismal fail. Now you can't even add videos to a cue when casting by tapping on them, and if you accidentally tap on a video it just, resets your cue and starts playing. You can still tap the icon next to the video in most cases to add it to cue.
