Apple’s AirTag 2 Will Be Easier to Find From Farther Away: Report
Apple is working on a new version of its AirTag, expected to launch in 2025, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman in his Sunday PowerOn newsletter.
The upgraded AirTag will feature a new ultrawide-band (UWB) chip, similar to the one in the iPhone 15, making it much easier to find items from longer distances.
Currently, AirTags can be located using Precision Finding within a range of 10 to 30 metres, depending on the environment. Gurman reports that the next-generation UWB chip in the new AirTag could triple that range, allowing users to track their items from significantly farther away. For those who frequently misplace keys, wallets and more, this is going to be awesome.
The upgrade isn’t just about range. The new AirTag will also improve security and wireless performance, addressing concerns raised about the first-gen model. Gurman previously said AirTag 2 will make it harder for stalkers to track you.
There’s no exact release date, but previous reports state it’s coming in 2025. Recently, we’ve seen 4-packs of AirTags drop in price down to $89.99. So this signals the update may be coming sooner rather than later. Let’s hope the price stays the same.

Still TOO FAT for a minimalist wallet – that's why I'm designing one that's 75% thinner than Airtag – preview pics at gps wallet finder dot com – and its fully Apple certified "Find My" compatible device… just saying
Find My circuitry, RFID active jamming circuitry, wireless charging circuitry, 100 dB capable sound source and 8 months standby rechargeable battery – all that in a 2mm thin credit card size?
You lost me at Kickstarter. Astoundingly high percentage of projects over promise and under deliver or not deliver at all.
It's not expected to launch in 2024. Typo in the first line.
