Bluesky Rolls Out Mentions Tab as Part of Update 1.96

Bluesky now displays a separate tab for all of your mentions within the notifications tab. This new feature comes as part of the latest 1.96 software update.
As mentioned in the patch notes for App Version 1.96, Bluesky now supports a new ‘Mentions’ tab in notifications. When tapping the bell icon within the app, you’ll now see a second tab within the notifications page. Here, you can see your replies and conversations you’ve been tagged in on Bluesky. This particular feature follows a similar structure to the Mentions tab on X (formerly Twitter).
In addition, Bluesky’s latest update also allows you to reserve your default username when you verify your account with a domain. Up until this point, users would either have to abandon their old .bsky.social name or create an alt account to snag the old .bsky.social after creating a custom domain.
Other improvements thanks to App Version 1.96 include a new setting to change reply ordering and the visual style in threads. You can set replies to be linear, showing up as one post after another. Or you can set them to be threaded, showing as part of a thread, akin to how comments appear on Reddit. Replies can also be sorted by newest, oldest, hot, etc.
Since November, Bluesky has seen a rise in users, becoming #1 on the App Store at the time. The platform is becoming more of a viable competitor to the likes of X and Meta’s Threads. While still achieving a milestone of 25 million users, Bluesky still has a ways to go before outpacing its competition. However, introducing more fundamental features, such a Mentions tab and reply settings does get it one step closer.
