How to Restore Your iPhone If You Forget Your Passcode [VIDEO]

Apple has shared a new video on its YouTube support channel detailing how you can erase your iPhone and restore it to factory settings if you’re unable to unlock the device even after troubleshooting,

Whether you prefer using your device’s built-in features or a computer, here’s how to reset your iPhone and restore it to factory settings.

Before proceeding with a reset, ensure the following:

• iOS Version: Your device should be running iOS 15.2 or later.
• Network Connection: Connect your iPhone to a cellular or Wi-Fi network.
• Apple ID Credentials: Have your Apple ID and password ready; these were used during your device’s initial setup.

Here’s how you can erase your iPhone directly:

1. From the Lock Screen, enter your passcode multiple times until the “iPhone Unavailable” message appears, prompting you to try again later.
2. Once available, tap the “Forgot Passcode?” option located at the bottom corner of the screen.
3. On the Security Lockout screen, tap “Erase iPhone” to confirm.
4. Enter your Apple ID password to sign out of your account on the device.
5. Tap “Erase iPhone” to permanently delete all data and settings.
6. If using an eSIM with iOS 17 or later, choose whether to retain or delete your eSIM during the erasure process.
7. After the device restarts, follow the on-screen instructions to set it up again, restore data and settings from a backup, and create a new passcode.
