Rogers to Fight Competition Bureau: Being Singled Out is ‘Concerning’
Rogers has responded to legal action taken by the Commissioner of Competition, standing firmly behind its advertising and pledging to fight a lawsuit by the Competition Bureau, which alleges the wireless carrier mislead consumers over its unlimited data plans.
Rogers emphasized yesterday the value its Infinite unlimited data plans have brought to Canadian consumers since their introduction in 2019. The plans, designed to eliminate overage fees and provide predictable monthly bills, marked a major shift in the industry, particularly as data consumption surged, says the company.
“These plans are commonplace in the industry and reflected a significant and positive development for consumers and small businesses,” the statement read. “The advertising of our Infinite plans is clear and truthful, and we will fight this litigation. The Bureau’s decision to single out Rogers after five years is quite concerning.”
Canadian tax dollars will now be used by the Bureau to fight Rogers in court. The Competition Bureau falls under the Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED) portfolio.
Rogers, alongside Telus and Bell, offer ‘unlimited’ data plans that will see speeds throttled once your data bucket is exhausted. Grab your popcorn folks, this is going to get interesting.

So when the CRTC/Bureau/government leaves industry alone to regulate itself and the results aren’t great for consumers, this site writes articles complaining about that and includes snarky comments in its articles that indicate that the CRTC/Bureau/government is not doing enough. And then when the government does do something to call out companies for their bad behaviour and do things to try and make the situation better for consumers, you folks also write articles with snarky comments like the one above to indicate that you think this isn’t a a good use of taxpayer dollars. Make up your mind, people! You just seem to be anti-everything.
I’m so disappointed at what this site has become. It used to be a great tech resource that didn’t have any political leanings. Now all I see are articles with low key political ideology, anti-government statements or at least childlike whining about governments actions or inactions on your pet issue, and even more bizarrely, articles about Android phones on an iPhone focused website! Really pathetic. I wish you would go back to just writing unbiased tech news. If you want to be a political commentator, do it on an opinion site. This site should maintain some journalistic integrity and report on tech news without the writer’s/owner’s personal political viewpoints getting into it.
Well said.
Give your head a shake, big boi. I've saved so much money thanks to this site on tech deals and cellphone plan changes they post first about. I haven't seen you come to say thanks for anything, only to complain about how YOU think the site should be run!! Yet, you're still here after all these years, funny, just to complain because your panties got twisted into a knot
Ok, Mr sycophant. I'm sure you love drinking that mind-altering Kool-Aid. And It's only you who have saved money on this site.
That’s a stated fact. If you don’t like the way he wrote it read your news elsewhere – I personally love this site way more than mobilesyrup… it’s not even close
MS is a total dumpster fire, they post about off topic crap like pr0nhub and other useless junk. There off topic news makes this site look like a saint. their total news and editorial just copies iic anyways, it's hilarious
Love the projection. Happy Hanukkah.
Just like people love Trump more than they love Jesus. But ok!
Say what? You don't like the right wing comments and posters here with most of the blogs written by script readers and forwarders of the Big 3 and the CRTC?
You see what you want to see.
Call it "data enhancement" instead of unlimited data. Accurate since without it you have none.
