Warner Bros. Delays ‘The Batman 2’ Release to 2027
Warner Bros. has announced a major reshuffling of its release schedule, with Matt Reeves’ highly anticipated sequel to The Batman now delayed to October 1, 2027, the Deadline reports.

Originally slated for an October 2, 2026 release, the postponement reflects the scale and complexity of the project, which is expected to feature extensive visual effects.
Production for the film was set to begin in late summer 2024, giving Reeves and his team ample time to craft a visually immersive and action-packed experience for fans. Interestingly, Warner Bros. had already reserved the first weekend of October 2027 for a DC project. This reshuffling cements that slot for the return of Robert Pattinson as Gotham’s Dark Knight.
The Batman (2022) marked a turning point for Warner Bros., serving as the studio’s first major box office success after the COVID-19 pandemic and its controversial day-and-date streaming strategy on Max.
Directed by Reeves and starring Pattinson as the brooding vigilante, the film earned $369.3 million domestically and $772 million worldwide. Its success also led to the creation of an HBO Max spin-off series, The Penguin, focusing on Colin Farrell’s portrayal of the infamous Gotham mob boss.
The Penguin further solidified the popularity of Reeves’ universe, becoming the third most-watched debut series on HBO Max globally, trailing only House of the Dragon and The Last of Us. The series’ success underscores the demand for compelling, character-driven narratives within Reeves’ Gotham City.

With The Batman sequel vacating its original October 2026 slot, Warner Bros. has chosen to debut Alejandro González Iñárritu’s untitled film featuring Tom Cruise in its place. This new project, also set for Imax release, is the only major studio wide release scheduled for that weekend.
Iñárritu, known for award-winning films like Birdman and The Revenant, teams up with Cruise in what is anticipated to be a visually stunning and ambitious cinematic experience.
