Public Mobile Launches $29/20GB 5G Can-US-Mex Plan
Telus-owned Public Mobile continues to tweak its year-end plans, this time debuting a $29/20GB Canada-US-Mexico plan with 5G data on Saturday.
We previously saw this $29/10GB 5G Canada-US-Mexico plan debut during Black Friday (it’s still available), but this time there’s 10GB more data, taking it to 20GB total. The plan allows for talk, text and data within Canada, the US and Mexico.
Here are Public Mobile’s 4G plans as of writing, Sunday, December 28, 2024:
- $19/1GB 4G + 100 long distance minutes
- $23/6GB 4G + 100 long distance minutes
- $29/20GB 4G + 250 long distance minutes
Here are the 5G plans that all include Canada-US-Mexico talk, text and data:
- $29/20GB 5G (no long distance minutes) – ends Dec 31
- $29/10GB 5G + 250 long distance minutes
- $35/50GB 5G + 500 long distance minutes
- $35/75GB 5G + 1000 long distance minutes – ends Dec 31
- $45/75GB 5G + 1000 long distance minutes
- $55/100GB 5G + 1000 long distance minutes
Again, if you’re currently on a plan that’s priced higher than $29/month, Public Mobile won’t let you downgrade, which is pretty ridiculous according to many customers.
How to get around this? You’ll have to downgrade to a plan that’s at $29 or lower instantly, then switch to the $29/20GB Canada-US-Mexico plan (either instantly or on renewal). Of course, this will cost you in the short term. But if you have an account balance to spend, it won’t affect you that much.
So the 5G Canada-US-Mexico roster continues to remain confusing, as there are now four plans with two similar price points, but varying amounts of data and long distance minutes. The $29/20GB and $35/75GB plans end on December 31, 2024.

I’m on the $34 5G US/Canada 50GB plan and the only plan that’s cheaper that I can downgrade to is the $30 4G 20GB plan, which is still higher than the $29. So did they close the loop hole? What a shady, disloyalty breeding company.
Try to switch to $30 and then you might see $29? Gives you at least one lower option all the time? Let me know if it works!
I don't want to risk it. While there is a competitive $35/month plan, it would mean paying the $30 immediately and then possibly not having the $29 plan. So to save $5/month, I'd potentially get myself stuck with $30 + $12/year, plus the hassle. And I want to do this with 6 lines.
I would say you are correct. I was on a $40 75GB Can-US plan so the $35 plans were not on offer to me. I set my renewal on Dec26 to the lowest priced $30 20GB Canada only plan. Got charged the $30 on renewal as expected then the $35 plans appeared.
I then instantly renewed at the $35 75GB Can-US-Mex plan.
I submitted a ticket and when the rep contacted me, I requested a credit for the $30 plan I had to change to but couldn't use. The Service Rep did give me the $30 credit so I'm happy about that.
The $30 plan remained as the lowest priced option so I suspect you probably won't see the $29 plan if you are already above $30.
So, the plan $35 canada US Mexico ending Dec 31st is the roaming plan in these countries?
Yes. The plan allows roaming in these 3 countries plus 1000 minutes/month to dial to 7 other countries from inside Canada.
Public mobile sucks.
Im with Chatr and when I went with them they gave me 10 additional GB and I get the 3rd month free so I don't know if they still have the promotion but if they do I suggest you go with them👍
I just switched from the $35 50GB to the $35 75GB plan. You'd be stupid not too
Check the details carefully. I have a mid tier Canada plan, if I move to Can US Mex I loose call display voicemail etc. I do not need lots of data, but I want call display at a minimum. I want to know what calls NOT to answer.
This is absolutely NOT the case. The basic calling and voicemail features are identical with every single plan they offer, they're just inconsistent with including it in all plan descriptions.
