Google Solves Nest Hub and Audio Issue Affecting Command Responses

Google has investigated and provided a solution to a thankfully short-lived issue with Nest Hub and Audio devices. Over the holidays, users began experiencing audio issues that affected how their Nest Hub devices responded to simple commands and queries.
Following the holidays, users noticed that Google’s Nest Hub and Audio smart speakers had all of a sudden lost the ability to respond to questions. Commands asking “Hey Google, what’s the weather?” would be left unanswered. Many Nest Hub and Audio devices were stuck in some sort of perpetual loading cycle, where the animation showed that the device was trying to provide an answer but never reached its conclusion.
Android Authority first reported on this issue this week. Users took to Google’s Assistant Help forums to report their own issues. “All of my Nest speakers suddenly got dumb; all were working, but as of yesterday, they all freeze up when I try to get past Hey Google,” one user wrote. This entire ordeal appears to have spawned around the time New Year’s rolled around and the calendars transitioned over to 2025.
Thankfully, Google has investigated the issue. In an update to the original story, Android Authority spoke to a Google spokesperson. “The team is still investigating the root cause but has resolved the issue, so all users should be up and running now,” the company said.
Unfortunately for curious minds, we have no insight into what may have caused the issue. However, it’s refreshing to see Google take such affirmative actions to solve the issue. With a fix provided, users should not face any issues with Nest Hub and Audio devices any longer.
