Reports Claim Nintendo Lawyers Spoke to Genki Regarding Recent Leaks

Nintendo’s lawyers are reported to have approached accessory company Genki on the CES 2025 showroom floor last week. It’s claimed that after the company discussed the Nintendo Switch 2 mockups, lawyers came to discuss course corrective actions.

As reported by Eurogamer, French tech journalist Julien Tellouck is one of several to claim that Nintendo’s lawyers had come to Genki’s CES booth on Friday of last week. According to Tellouck, Genki said to Nintendo that it did not sign any formal non-disclosure agreement (NDA) and was not legally bound to any rules.

“I talked to the guy from Genki just behind me, he told me that Nintendo had stopped by with lawyers – they had nothing to be reprimanded for because they had never signed a paper with Nintendo – no confidentiality agreement, no NDA,” Tellouck said. “So the Japanese brand are quiet.”

During CES 2025, Genki was showing what claimed to be a 3D-printed Nintendo Switch 2 mockup. Attendees were able to see it for themselves and compare it to the size and scale of other devices. Genki was also showing the mounting channel of the new Joy-Cons which is said to include an optical sensor, assumedly to provide mouse-like functions. As CES 2025 came to a close, Nintendo finally made a statement regarding the swell of leaks, saying that  “the images and videos are not official.”

After the fact, Genki had rescinded the notion that it had seen the Nintendo Switch 2 itself. Previously, the accessory company said that units were available on the black market and that was how it was able to produce a 3D mockup.
