TikTok Survives U.S. Shutdown Drama With Last-Minute Trump Move

Well, that was pretty shortlived. TikTok announced it is coming back online in the United States after reaching an agreement with its service providers.

The move follows President-elect Donald Trump’s assurances that those supporting TikTok’s operations won’t face penalties under a new law targeting the app.

“We thank President Trump for providing the necessary clarity and assurance to our service providers that they will face no penalties providing TikTok to over 170 million Americans and allowing over 7 million small businesses to thrive,” said TikTok in a statement.

The U.S. Supreme Court previously upheld a law that banned TikTok in the country, over national security fears.

On Truth Social, Trump said he plans to issue an executive order to extend the time before the law banning TikTok takes effect. He also proposed a potential joint venture where the U.S. government would hold a 50% stake in the app alongside its current or new owners. He said this approach would keep TikTok operating under “good hands” while protecting national security.

This decision reverses TikTok’s earlier warning that it would shut down on January 19, impacting millions of users and businesses relying on the platform, including many Canadians that shifted their TikTok businesses down south (only US creators can get paid as part of revenue sharing).

Trump mentioned the importance of TikTok for Americans to participate in events like his upcoming inauguration on Monday. On Friday, Trump launched a crypto memecoin called $TRUMP and it so far has surged like bananas, surpassing the likes of Dogecoin and SHIB in market cap.

TikTok users can now expect the app to remain operational while discussions continue to finalize its future in the U.S. The app is not banned in Canada, but the feds forced TikTok to shut down its offices here.

Its hilariously disgusting what tik tok is doing. Trying to put Trump’s name on their unbanning. Especially when TRUMP IS THE ONE THAT WENT FOR THE BAN IN THE FIRST PLACE. Then again tik tokers dont have great attention spans so Trump willl have been tik tok’s #1 defender from the get go for them. Americans are cooked

As though we need more proof that there is 0 logic behind anything Trump does.
It's okay. He'll help prop up a company that makes sure its users have as little attention span as possible all while completely dismantling what is, clearly, an already failing bit of what is left of the American education system.

Trump loves the uneducated and the uneducated love Trump. Good luck America. You're gonna need it.

The whole thing was just a stunt to suck up to Trump. Guess who’s going to the inauguration, Tiktok’s CEO. What a joke
