Google today announced more than 20 new Chromebook and Chromebook Plus devices for 2025, along with a ton of new Google for Education and AI features coming to ChromeOS.
At BETT 2025 in London, Europe’s largest educational technology exhibition, Google teased a bunch of new Chromebooks and talked about new education, AI, class management, and device administration features for ChromeOS.
“We’re always working to bring the best technology to educators, students and leaders around the world. To kick off 2025, we’re sharing a slew of new updates coming to Google Workspace for Education and Chromebooks this year,” Shantanu Sinha, Vice President of Google for Education, said in a blog post.
Google for Education is releasing Class tools, a variety of new classroom-focused features for ChromeOS that are available with Google Worksapce for Education. Class tools allow educators to connect to their students’ Chromebooks to monitor their screens, create digital workbooks, enable collaboration, remotely turn on accessibility features like live captions, share and pin content to students’ screens, and engage with their class in real time.
Google also touted a number of new accessibility-focused features, the most noteworthy of which is Face control for Chromebooks. Face control “enables people to control their cursor by moving their head and perform various actions using facial gestures,” noted Brian Hendricks, a Group Product Manager for Google Workspace for Education.
Additional accessibility features coming to ChromeOS include Reading mode on the Chrome browser for reading text aloud, and PDF OCR for accessing PDFs using a screen reader.
Google is expanding and improving on the AI features available on its Chromebook and Chromebook Plus lines, including Gemini, NotebookLM, and Google Lens. The company highlighted a plethora of ways its AI tools can help Chromebook users teach and learn.
To top it all off, Google is rolling out new features designed to make it easier for IT admins to manage their institution’s Chromebooks. These include new policies in the Google Admin console, more granular device controls, and advanced management capabilities for IT admins to keep Chromebook users safer online.
As for new devices coming this year, Google showcased upcoming Chromebook and more premium Chromebook Plus offerings from Acer, Asus, HP, Lenovo, Samung, and others. The announcement also brought news of the Chromebox OPS, a new plug-in device coming soon that can turn any large flat panel touchscreen or smart board into a ChromeOS device.
