Google Gemini in Sheets Can Now Generate Charts and More

Do you hate making tedious charts for your spreadsheets? Well, Google’s Gemini AI has you covered. The tech giant on Wednesday announced an update for Gemini in Sheets that enables the AI assistant to generate charts based on your data and even analyze it to identify trends, patterns, and correlations between different variables.

“Building data visualizations and identifying trends in data is a critical business function, however it can be time consuming and oftentimes overwhelming,” Google said in a blog post announcing the update.

“To improve upon this experience, we’re making it easier for Sheets users, ranging from small business owners to marketing analysts, to visualize and analyze data using Gemini in Sheets.”

Google Sheets users can now ask Gemini questions about their data, which it can analyze to come up with valuable insights. From identifying business trends to estimating future performance based on historical data, Gemini is positioning itself as the go-to spreadsheet wingman.

“This update reflects Gemini in Sheets’ enhanced intelligence as it now yields valuable outputs by transforming your requests into Python code, executing on them and then analyzing the results to perform multi-layered analysis. As a result, you’re able to do things like identify top-performing products and then instantly dive into their sales trends — all without writing a single line of code,” Google explained.

To top it all off, Gemini in Sheets can generate charts for your data as static images that can be inserted over cells in a spreadsheet.

Users can access Gemini for Sheets in the side panel by clicking the spark-shaped “Ask Gemini” button. For enterprise deployments, administrators must enable the default personalization settings for users in the Admin console, while users need to ensure that smart features and personalization are turned on.

These features begin rolling out today and will be available to Google Workspace users with the following subscriptions:

  • Business Standard and Plus
  • Enterprise Standard and Plus
  • Gemini Education or Gemini Education Premium add-ons
  • Google One AI Premium

Google noted that anyone who previously purchased the now-discontinued Gemini Business and Gemini Enterprise plans will also get access to these features.
